Bohol Island is one of those destinations that appear on most itineraries around the Philippines; besides being easy to reach, there are plenty of things to do in Bohol. Diving, snorkeling with turtles, gorgeous beaches, waterfalls, the Chocolate Hills or tarsiers are just some of the many plans you can make. Once your day of adventures is over, you’ll need a place where to stay in Bohol to rest and recharge for the next day.
That’s why we’ve put together a complete list of the best places to stay on the island. To make choosing easier, we’ve divided it into the main areas where you’ll most likely want to base yourself.
Areas to stay in Bohol: where to look for your hotel on the island
Here’s a quick summary of the main features of the island’s areas, plus pros and cons to help you decide where to stay in Bohol.
Staying in Tagbilaran, gateway in and out of Bohol
Tagbilaran isn’t the island’s most touristy area nor the one with the best nightlife, but it can be very convenient to stay here if you need a hotel close to the Port of Bohol, either because you have to leave very early or you arrive at night and don’t want to keep moving around. You can reach this area from Alona Beach in about 45 minutes.
The city itself isn’t particularly pleasant, but it does have several shopping malls, hospitals, and a stretch by the canal with a few cool restaurants for a drink or bite. We’ve had to stay around here several times and we wouldn’t call it a pretty spot if what you’re after is where to stay in Bohol by the sea.
Staying in Panglao: hotels in Alona Beach and nearby
This is, without a doubt, the most common area for most travelers to look for where to stay in Bohol. Panglao is an island attached to Bohol and connected by two bridges, so we include it in this accommodations guide. From Panglao you can visit inland Bohol and its most famous attractions (Chocolate Hills, tarsiers, Loboc…) by motorbike or with a car and driver. Plus, this is where the new airport is located, so getting to your hotel in Bohol from Manila or other destinations like El Nido is a breeze.
Alona Beach is the most famous among the beaches of Panglao. If you choose a hotel in Alona Beach or nearby, you’ll be close to its nightlife, the local beaches, and within a stone’s throw of the main dive shops to go diving in Panglao or Balicasag. If you don’t dive but still want to enjoy the marine life, Panglao is also the perfect base for discovering the best snorkeling spots in Bohol, such as the Balicasag snorkeling tour.
It’s true that Alona Beach has changed a lot in recent years, not only because the beach itself is losing sand in some areas, but also because it has pivoted towards mass, primarily Asian tourism and lost some charm. Even so, Panglao is a large island and there are pockets where you won’t find many people. It’s just a matter of exploring a little (something you can easily do with our site) and you’ll leave delighted.
On the hotel infrastructure front, this is where you’ll find the best resorts in Bohol and Panglao. If you’re looking for a beachfront hotel, go for Panglao and, if you can, specifically Dumaluan Beach, the best in the area. There we strongly recommend THIS HOTEL. If you want a backpacker-style place, this is also where you’ll find the best hostels in Bohol like THIS ONE.
You’ll find even more options in Where to stay in Panglao.
Accommodation in Loboc, the heart of Bohol Island
Get it out of your head that finding a hotel to stay in Bohol is synonymous with staying in Alona Beach—there’s more to the island than the busiest area. During your trip to the Philippines you won’t be short of beaches and, if you stay around Loboc, you’ll be much closer to must‑see places such as the Chocolate Hills, the Man‑Made Forest, or the Tarsier Sanctuary. We tell you all about this part of Bohol in Things to do in Loboc so you can get a clearer idea.
Even so, the coolest thing about staying in this area is that there are accommodations with little cabins right on the river, which gives your trip a very special touch. That’s the case with THIS HOTEL, which we love and which, in fact, has two pools overlooking the Loboc River.
Have a look at the options we’ll show in this article and bear in mind that from here you can also book, for example, the Balicasag outing. Still, remember that logistics are trickier, as snorkeling trips usually start very early (around 8am).
If you need more inspiration, don’t miss our article Where to stay in Loboc.
Hotels in Anda: staying in the “other” Bohol
We’re sorry to say that if you leave Bohol Island without passing through Anda, you’ll only have seen one of its faces. Anda is increasingly on the lips of travelers coming to the Philippines, and the reason is none other than the huge variety of things to do it offers: massive waterfalls, large rice terraces, gorgeous beaches, good food, incredible diving, and even several cenotes. Yes, all that is in Bohol and, if you don’t look for a place to stay in Anda, you’ll miss it.
Still, keep in mind that it’s a couple of hours from Anda to Loboc and more than three to Panglao. That’s why we think Anda is more than an alternative—it’s a complement for those who want to explore the island more deeply, or an option for those who want to get off the beaten path. If you’re after a cool, special spot by the sea, THIS HOTEL is your place.
You’ll find much more info on the best areas and hotels here in our article Where to stay in Anda.
So which area should I choose to stay in Bohol?
That will depend on how much time you have. If you only have a couple of days/3 nights, our advice is to focus on either Panglao or Loboc. Since Panglao lets you end the day on the beach, we usually lean towards it.
If you have at least 4 or 5 nights in Bohol, you could split your stay into two parts. In other words, you could do:
- 2 nights in Panglao + 2/3 in Loboc
- 2 nights in Panglao + 2/3 in Anda
In our opinion, the most complete would be the 2nd, since from Anda you could hire a car with a driver to take you to see the Loboc area and the Chocolate Hills on the way to Panglao so you make the most of the day. However, if you’re looking for an inland or slightly “jungle‑y” experience, nothing beats staying in one of the hotels along the Loboc River. So any option is interesting.

Manta Dream Dive Resort
A new arrival in the Alona Beach area in 2023 and top‑rated from minute one. We were among the first guests to stay at Manta Dream Dive Resort and we wouldn’t rule out doing so again in the future. Besides having a super friendly owner, it’s set a little back from the main road, which guarantees peace and quiet, yet it also lets you walk to both the beach and the restaurants. As a bonus, it has a huge pool to cool off after a long day of exploring.
The rooms are pleasant, modern, comfortable, and spacious. The mattresses are new and guarantee a good rest. They also have air‑conditioning and hot water. There’s a handy adjoining restaurant where breakfast is served, and we recommend including it because it’s quite complete for the price. Plus, if you have any food allergies or are vegan/vegetarian, they’re very attentive. Prices start at $39, which we think is very fair for what’s offered.
By the way, the owner’s dogs (Alab and Ajos) are super loving!

La Sirenita Resort
Right on the beach in Panglao yet away from all the hustle, it’s a great hotel if you’re coming to Bohol to dive and relax. Owned by Spaniards, the rooms are so huge that two double beds fit. They have air‑conditioning, a fan, a safe, a kettle… everything you need! Not only that, you’ll find fiber‑optic internet here, ideal if you have to work or simply want to enjoy Netflix.
On our latest stay in Panglao, we spent 2 weeks here, so you can imagine how comfortable we were. So much so that we’ve even dedicated a full article to it: Staying at La Sirenita Resort, Panglao.

ARAMARA Resort
Fancy waking up and, when you draw the curtains in your room, having a beautiful beach right in front of you? Then note this: “ARAMARA Resort.” Located right on White Beach and just 4 kilometers from Alona Beach, your main problem here will be convincing yourself to go out and see Bohol instead of staying on the beach all day. The staff treatment is excellent, cleanliness is 10/10, and they’ll help you arrange transport from 150 pesos to get to the Alona area if you wish. They have rooms from only $30.

Bohol Beach Club
Even so, if we had to pick just one hotel from this whole list of places to stay in Bohol, it would be Bohol Beach Club, also known as BBC. Why? It’s on the best beach in Panglao: Dumaluan, and it has everything you need for a relaxing holiday. So much so that we’ve celebrated birthdays/anniversaries here and loved every minute.
It’s a high‑end hotel, with a pool, beachfront villas, a restaurant with sea views (at great prices for what it is), a bar, gym, massage area… The best part is that it has a long exclusive beach area with loungers and packed with palm trees where we spend the whole day. In short, the closest thing to an “all inclusive” you’ll find. We stayed in the simplest rooms and honestly found them perfect. They’re spacious, with thoughtful details, an ideal bathroom, and a good internet connection.

Hotels in Loboc, Bohol
Discover Bohol’s little heart from this hardly touristy town. It’s ideal if you’re after full‑on nature, with the river just a stone’s throw away to explore by boat, kayak, or paddle board. In Where to stay in Loboc you’ll find even more options.
Loboc River Resort
As we mentioned above, one of the most memorable parts of your stay on the island can be staying in Bohol in a little cabin right by the Loboc River. We’ve been lucky to visit Loboc River Resort several times and we love it for several reasons:
- The rooms are spacious and have fabulous balconies overlooking the river (careful—don’t take the garden‑view ones because it’s not the same).
- The pools also face the river and are great after a day of adventure.
- The restaurant is excellent, prices are very reasonable, it looks directly over the river, and they have vegetarian and vegan options. Plus, breakfast is included in the price and is more than complete.
- They also organize firefly watching at a very moderate cost.
It’s true that the “simpler” rooms (those that aren’t deluxe or king) are getting a bit dated, but they’re clean and comfortable, so we wouldn’t hesitate. Do note, though, that rooms get snapped up weeks in advance.

Fox & The Firefly Cottages
We’re sure Fox & The Firefly Cottages will win you over. The rooms have been renovated and offer wonderful views of the Loboc River from their cabins. Cleanliness and service are a 10, and they have a restaurant with a varied, tasty menu. They rent motorbikes so you can explore the area on your own and also organize tours if you want them to take care of everything. Take a look at the cabins at this hotel in Loboc and start picturing yourself there.

Stefanie Grace Paradise Inn
To be honest, this hotel in Loboc doesn’t stand out for pretty décor. But it offers rooms for $13, 500 meters from the town center, with a cool pool overlooking the river and air‑conditioning. What more could you ask for? Good service? They have that too! The family who runs the hotel is charming and will help however they can, including arranging the firefly trip along the river. They also offer laundry service and motorbike rental—an interesting option for staying in Bohol.

Hotels in Anda
Explore a part of Anda that’s the opposite of Panglao. Although there are more and more businesses, the east of Bohol is light‑years away from Alona’s level of tourism development. In Where to stay in Anda we tell you everything, but here’s a selection of our favorite places:
Three Little Birds
Three Little Birds quickly won the hearts of its guests and remains one of our favorites. The room décor and design are truly beautiful and it offers all the amenities you could want in a mid‑priced hotel. You can choose between fan or air‑conditioned rooms, and all of them have a small terrace from which you can access the central pool, surrounded by vegetation that we adore. If you look closely, in the photo below you can see Claudia all relaxed taking a dip.
It’s not on Anda’s main beach; you can reach it by scooter in under 5 minutes and you can access the nearby (very, very cool) beach with a one‑minute walk. They also have a small restaurant with good cooking and tasty breakfasts. They make, in fact, an excellent coffee. You’ll surely like it!
Excellent value for money and lovely décor!

Old Castle
Old Castle is one of the most unique places to stay in Bohol, and you’ll realize it as soon as you approach. It’s shaped like a medieval castle but, don’t worry, the interior is normal—just like any other accommodation in the Philippines. The couple who runs the hotel is known for their high level of attention to guests, so most travelers talk about how comfortable they felt there. It’s set right on the beachfront and has a bar/restaurant on the sand under the coconut palms. Fancy a candlelit dinner while the waves break just a few meters away? Then take a look at the beach in front of the hotel—that’s the one in the photo below.

More alternatives for staying in Anda (Bohol):
- Casa Amihan: a stunning property perched on a small cliff with sea views. It’s not in town, but everything else more than makes up for it. Prices are around $70 a night. Click here to take a look.
