Traveling around the Philippines independently and in a close-up way

Hello!

You’ve probably come this far for two reasons. It’s highly likely that one of them is that you’re eager to travel to the Philippines to see those landscapes stuck in your mind and that you’re a bit lost with the planning. We don’t blame you—we were, too, the first time!

On Travel Around the Philippines you’ll find super-detailed guides by two geeks of this country who have lived there and keep coming back. We won’t just tell you about the tourist spots on an archipelago route; we’ll go further, revealing less-visited corners and giving you tips so you can live unforgettable experiences like ours—all from an approach of ethical, responsible tourism.

We want to make your life easier when it comes to preparing your trip to the Philippines and, above all, to share our passion and speak to you with trust, traveler to traveler. We promise you’ll be thinking of returning before you’ve even left.

You can start to plan your trip to the Philippines here.

And secondly, by now you’ve surely caught the bug and want to know who writes Travel Around the Philippines.

Claudia Rodriguez and Jairo Gausachs, experts in the Philippines

Who we are

We are Claudia Rodriguez and Jairo Gausachs, an Andalusian–Catalan couple in love with life, travel and, of course, the Philippines.

Although the travel bug had been with us for years, since 2014 we’ve been traveling around the world indefinitely. Shall we tell you a secret? We didn’t start this journey together, but solo, and our paths came together in… the Philippines!

We bumped into each other in Bohol and since then we’ve explored many places together, although our hearts always keep a piece in the Philippines, our favorite country, to which we never stop returning.

Claudia Rodríguez

Knowing nothing about the archipelago, Claudia landed in 2010 in Manila to stay and work at the Commercial Office of the Embassy of Spain in the Philippines. And she wasn’t even into diving nor felt the urge for island life. She had to return to Spain reluctantly, but promised she’d come back “properly.”

Since she left, she has returned many times to spend long periods and to travel solo, with family and as a couple. She dreams of finding a plot with sea views and setting up a few cabins for travelers and a dive school while alternating with group trips in which she can pass on her passion for the Philippines. For now—though she’s planning how to shape it—she travels with her camera and laptop in tow, creating online content and doing SEO.

Jairo Gausachs

For his part, Jairo arrived in the Philippines for the first time in 2015, when he was escaping the cold of New Zealand. After a few days traveling with his mother, he ran into Claudia and discovered the charms of the turtles in Balicasag. These were followed by the thresher shark of Malapascua and the whale shark in Padre Burgos. Although he was never much of a beach person (salt water and sand… meh…), he succumbed to the Philippine paradises without much resistance.

He doesn’t rule out finding a lost island on which to build a resort (he’s sure about it—an infinity-style pool), where he can plant his own mango tree and alternate seasons there with others getting to know other destinations at a slow pace. His drone, Macario II, and his computer are never missing from his trips. He also creates online content and does SEO.

We’re not tied to anyone: we’re independent travelers

We don’t tie ourselves to anyone. Travel Around the Philippines is an independent site from any company, hotel or restaurant. We travel where and how we want and create free content in which we share our experiences. You’ll also see there’s no annoying advertising getting in your way, so you can read comfortably.

If we’ve helped you and you want to help us keep writing these articles, you can do so by booking your accommodation in the Philippines through this and this link, by taking out your travel insurance from here, or by clicking many of the links you’ll find on the site.

These will take you to companies we use on our trips and trust. You’ll pay the same (or even get a discount) and we’ll earn a small commission to keep the site running. You can also read how to support us here.
