Ready to discover everything you can do in Boracay? Then the next step is to book your accommodation. That’s why we’ve prepared a very detailed article with the best places where to stay in Boracay.

Which hotels can you stay at in Boracay?

As you probably know, Boracay was closed for 6 months. After President Duterte said it was a “sewer,” due to poor waste management on the island, it was shut to the public and different rehabilitation projects have been carried out since April 26, 2018.

Since there were hotels that had built pipes discharging waste directly into the sea, many of them were closed and now only hotels with permits approved by the DENR (the Department of Environment and Natural Resources of the Philippines) can operate.

In fact, you will only be allowed to enter Boracay if you show that you have a booking at one of these authorized hotels. The island’s daily capacity is limited.

Therefore, the hotels where to stay in Boracay that we’re going to recommend are authorized to operate and you can book them without any issues.

What is the best area to stay in Boracay?

As we tell you in Things to do in Boracay, the beautiful White Beach is 7 kilometers long and is divided into Stations. Each station has its own characteristics:

  • Station 1: more upscale hotels or resorts, a quiet vibe, but the farther you head toward the tip, the narrower the beach gets.
  • Station 2: the highest concentration of hotels, shops, restaurants… It’s the busiest.
  • Station 3: in our opinion, much more relaxed than the previous ones and with smaller hotels.

From our experience, unless you’re looking for a lot of partying, the best areas to stay in Boracay are stations 1 and 3.

In addition, a good place to stay in Boracay is around Bulabog Beach, especially if you plan to do kitesurfing. More and more accommodations are popping up here, maybe with a slightly hippie touch and at more moderate prices than on White Beach’s stations. Still, this beach is nowhere near as beautiful as White Beach.

Either way, it won’t cost you more than 50–100 pesos to get around by tricycle from one side to the other. There’s also a hop-on hop-off bus that’s ideal for visiting the main points of interest for little money and it’s cheaper if you book online. Everything is relatively close in Boracay.

Where to stay in Boracay: the best hotels

Below, you’ll find our where to stay in Boracay recommendations divided by budget. All of these options have permits to operate following Boracay’s reopening in October 2018.

First of all, we want to warn you that hotel prices in Boracay are a little (sometimes quite a bit) higher than in the rest of the Philippines. It’s the most famous and touristy island, so you’ll need to bear that in mind. Therefore, it’s a good idea to book well in advance so you don’t end up with the worst value for money.

On the other hand, prices tend to rise in high season (from December to May) and even more on special dates such as Holy Week, the May long weekend or Christmas. We suggest booking a place to stay in Boracay as soon as possible.

Best hostels for backpackers in Boracay

Are you traveling solo or after a bit of a backpacker vibe? Although Boracay might not be the island with the most variety, as it’s geared more toward couples or families, you have several options that might suit you. Here we tell you the ones we think are the best hostels in Boracay.

The A Hostel – Station 2

If you’re traveling solo or as a backpacker to Boracay, this is your spot! This hostel in Boracay is one of the best you’ll find to meet people, go out partying or simply enjoy the beach, as it’s just a few steps from White Beach. It’s modern and, very importantly, it’s clean and has lockers for your own padlock. Beds start at €11 per night and have a curtain for greater privacy. Perhaps the only downside we see is that it doesn’t have common areas, but it’s perfect if all you want is a place to sleep and little else.

Frendz Hostel Boracay – Station 2

Stepping up in category, but without losing that backpacker atmosphere you’re after, Frendz Hostel Boracay is one of the branches of the hostel chain that’s all the rage in the Philippines. They already had one of the best hostels in El Nido, but they repeated the formula in Boracay and it worked. Besides a great location if you don’t want to worry about taking tricycles, your eyes will go straight to its pool, where socializing with other travelers is guaranteed. Their happy hours and (free) pasta nights are legendary and ideal for those who’ve come to the island ready to party.

As for the rooms, they have shared dorms for 10 people (from €12 per night) with hot water and air conditioning. Plus, everything is always spotless. If you’re traveling as a couple or with friends but want to meet people, you can also stay in one of the double rooms.
