Malapascua is one of those incredible paradises where, on your trip to the Philippines, you’ll have a huge number of things to do at your fingertips. Diving with thresher sharks, enjoying gorgeous beaches, discovering amazing nearby islands, or savoring jaw-dropping sunsets are just a small sample. Plus, once the day is over, you have a wide variety of hotels in Malapascua to rest and recharge for your next adventure.

At Travel Around the Philippines we know there are all kinds of travelers: those looking for something more budget-friendly, those willing to pay for slightly better rooms, and those who, every now and then, want to treat themselves. We’ve been in all the “camps”, so we’ve put together this list of the best places to stay in Malapascua where you’ll find the best cheap hotels and also those resorts that offer greater comforts and luxuries. We’re in love with the island and have been 7 times, one of them for 2 months, so let us advise you so you fall head over heels for it.

Keep reading and discover where to stay in Malapascua, one of our favorite islands in the Philippines.

Where to stay in Malapascua?

Malapascua is quite a small island. In fact, you can walk it from end to end in roughly an hour. However, although a few hotels are popping up in the north (such as Neverland or D’ Avila’s Horizon), our advice is to opt for the south/center of the island. This is where most restaurants are, the famous market packed with food stalls, and the diving centers in Malapascua. Plus, you have easy access to the places where boats to Maya depart and some brutal sunsets.

If your budget is a little higher, we strongly suggest looking for accommodation on Bounty Beach. This white-sand beach is ideal for a swim and has tons of spots to sit down and enjoy happy hour and sunset. If you ask us, Evolution, for example, has one of the prettiest stretches of beach. Plus, Tepanee has a beach all to itself, from which you can snorkel and enjoy jaw-dropping sunsets. Also, sleeping right on the beach is a good way to avoid the dreaded Malapascua roosters, which start doing their thing around 4–5 am.

Below you’ll find a list of our recommended hostels, hotels, and resorts in Malapascua. At the end you also have a map where we’ve marked them all so you can get an idea of their location in relation to the island’s main points of interest.

The best hostels for backpackers in Malapascua – TOP hostels

If you’re traveling solo to Malapascua and want a bit of backpacker vibe, don’t worry because you’ll also find that on this island. It’s true there aren’t as many as on other islands, so you’ll have fewer options, but here we tell you the ones that are usually livelier if you’re looking to meet people.

Malapascua Budget Inn

Malapascua Budget Inn is one of the most popular places among backpackers who come here and want to sleep on Malapascua island. We’d say that, as of today, it’s the only proper hostel on the island, with common areas to socialize. It’s also right next to the market, which guarantees a perfect location to get to know the island.

The facilities are really very simple, but cleanliness, the friendliness of the staff, and the great vibe in its common area earn it a lot of points for travelers looking to save. It has a nice restaurant that leads to many nights of sharing dinner and experiences with other backpackers. The shared rooms (with 4 and 14 beds) can be had from just 9 euros. Those in the largest dorm are “capsule” style, with curtains, each with its own outlet and light, plus lockers. If you’re friends or a couple, they also have double rooms with a private bathroom and air conditioning for $30.

Threshershark Inn

Super close to the port and therefore in a very convenient area to get around the island, this backpacker hostel in Malapascua is one of our favorites. They have 4-person dorms that are fairly simple but clean. Each bed has its locker and its own fan, and the best thing is it has balconies with incredible sea views. From just $10 per night. What more could you ask for? Well, for the service to be nice—and it is. Recommended!

If you’re traveling as a couple or with friends, you should know they also have double rooms with a balcony that are much more modern, some of them with sea views. The price is indeed higher, around $45 per night.

Other hostel options in Malapascua

If the above are already full or don’t convince you, take a look at these:

  • Malapascua Be One Guesthouse: we’re not entirely convinced by the location, but if you don’t mind walking a bit, it’s a cheap option to stay in Malapascua. Shared rooms cost 8$ with air conditioning. Have a look here.
  • Georgia’s Neverland Hostel: the truth is we wouldn’t stay that far from the market area, but this hostel in the north of Malapascua (near Langob Beach) has a very interesting vibe that hooks many travelers. If you’re going to stay many days on the island, we recommend considering it, but keep in mind that the market area and the port are about a 40-minute walk away. See it on Booking.

The best cheap hotels in Malapascua – TOP cheap hotels

In this section you’ll find cheap hotels in Malapascua where you can spend a few days without spending much money. Here you can choose places between $24 and $35, some of them with air conditioning and right on the seafront, because money goes a lot further on this island than in other parts of the Philippines, especially El Nido, Coron, or Boracay. Sleep in Malapascua at the best price!

AABANA Beach&Watersport Resort

We stayed here on our first visit to the island and loved it. It’s a great value accommodation option in Malapascua. AABANA Beach&Watersport Resort is a budget resort located almost at the end of Bounty Beach, the area where the vast majority of restaurants and hotels in Malapascua are found.

It has double rooms from just 20€ with a safe, fan, and Wi‑Fi, and breakfast included. The decor is quite simple, but it has slightly more stylish rooms and large family rooms where you can sleep in Malapascua. Plus, it’s located on one of the most beautiful stretches of beach on the island, so you can quickly alternate a dip in paradise waters with rest in bed.

Hideaway Resort Malapascua

It’s hard to find one of its 4 rooms free—but we did! This small hotel in the center of Malapascua, a few steps from the market, is a budget gem on the island. Its rooms are simple but spacious. There’s no hot water, but they have a fan or air conditioning. The best thing is its terrace facing the garden, where you can spend hours enjoying Malapascua’s peace. Plus, the family who runs the hotel is lovely. That said, expect the roosters of Malapascua to say good morning—you won’t escape that.

Blue Corals Beach Resort

This is one of the most iconic places to stay in Malapascua because you absolutely see it as you approach the island by boat. It’s located at the beginning of Bounty Beach, literally 2 minutes’ walk from the port, and therefore has a great location, with many rooms facing the sea and a rooftop with sofas that’s awesome.

It’s true that the rooms at Blue Corals could use a little refresh, but for $24 a night you can’t ask for much more. The most basic ones have a fan and a private bathroom with a water heater, for those who want to save but don’t want to give up certain comforts. They have several pricier ones with air conditioning and a little balcony. In any case, the staff is lovely and breakfast costs 3$, very complete for what they offer.

Another good thing about staying here is that they can arrange a boat to Malapascua outside the usual schedules. That is, if you think you’re going to arrive after 17:30, the latest time bangkas leave from Maya, they can set up a private one for 2,000 pesos. You have more information about this in How to get to Malapascua.

Malapascua Starlight Resort

Seriously, for us this place has unbeatable value for money. It’s also located by the market but has a large green area that makes it very quiet. Double rooms with air conditioning, although a little small, are around $25, a more than acceptable price considering how clean and pleasant they are. The staff is absolutely charming and they have relatively affordable laundry service. If you want to save even more, you should know they have free potable water tanks.

They also offer the option to book with free cancellation, so if you’re looking for a place to stay in Malapascua on the cheap, we recommend booking as soon as possible so you don’t end up without your room.

If the above are already booked or simply not your thing, here are more alternatives we’ve tried on the island that are still under $29 per night:

  • Mandurah’s Inn: a few steps from the market, it has spacious and clean rooms from just $29 per night. Take a look here.
  • Guanna’s Place: if you’re after something cheap and well located to stay in Malapascua without worrying about decor or large rooms, Guanna’s is an option. It’s right on one corner of the market and has rooms with a fan from just $18. See photos at this link.

The Deluxe Family Room at Malapascua Garden Resort has, no less, than 32 square meters so you can be totally comfortable while you rest in Malapascua. Both this and the other rooms have a private terrace overlooking the garden. Slam’s Garden Resort

Another of the best-rated cheap hotels in Malapascua is Slam’s Garden Resort. Its location 30 meters from the beach, its pool, and the friendliness of its staff are some of the reasons why this property has a score above 8 on hotel search engines. It offers other services such as in-room Wi‑Fi, a safe, private bathroom, terrace, and even a fridge. You can get a room here from just $34 for much of the year.

Celtis Resort Malapascua

For a hotel not located near the beach to have an average rating of 9 on sites like Booking or Agoda, it must offer excellent services. Celtis Resort Malapascua has nice, clean rooms with a private bathroom, air conditioning, hot water, and a terrace overlooking the garden. It’s very close to the Malapascua market, full of restaurants, but sufficiently removed from busy areas to ensure a good rest. And as a bonus, the roosters won’t bother you!

We’ve spent 2 months here, so we know what we’re talking about… Double rooms hover around an average of $34, but it’s not uncommon to see deals for only $30. You can read more info in our article dedicated entirely to it: Stay at Celtis Resort Malapascua.

  • JPH Resort: although the beds are a bit hard and the rooms very small and damp for our taste, travelers usually like it. Very good location. Take a look here,

Best resorts and hotels in Malapascua – TOP resorts

You might be looking to stay in Malapascua with the best services and amenities. If shared dorms or hostels aren’t your thing, in this list we recommend some resorts in Malapascua and mid‑to‑high‑priced hotels. The good thing is that, being an affordable island, most are around 60–75$ per night, a more than acceptable price for what’s offered.

Ocean Vida Resort

If we had to choose a resort in Malapascua to spend the next few days right now, we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Ocean Vida Resort. We can say that this accommodation has everything we can ask of a place like this. It’s set right on the beachfront, the rooms have private terraces and are perfectly decorated and fitted out, the staff is 10/10, and they have our favorite bar‑restaurant to enjoy the sunset with a unique atmosphere. In addition, its dive center is one of the most prestigious on the island and they have the best equipment and instructors who will make you not want to get out of the water.

They also have a sister hotel inland in Malapascua called Buena Vida Resort and Spa, which feels like stepping into a corner of Bali. The decor is gorgeous and the peace you breathe is amazing. As the name suggests, they have a spa and offer yoga classes.

Tepanee Beach Resort

Many travelers love this resort in Malapascua and, honestly, they have plenty of reasons. Its location is excellent and, besides being close to bars and restaurants, ensures the best spot to watch the sunset on the island. It’s located on a small promontory in the south of Malapascua and boasts, among many virtues, a private beach. The value for money is great for staying in a bungalow with sea views, so we wouldn’t hesitate.

You can also enjoy private massages here, a pool, gym, restaurants, and rooms up to 30 square meters with private terraces. Choosing Tepanee Beach Resort is always a win! If you’re traveling for a special occasion, you’ll like to know it’s one of the best hotels for a honeymoon in the Philippines.

Evolution Dive and Beach Resort

If you’re looking for a good place to stay in Malapascua and also want to dive or get your PADI, Evolution Dive and Beach Resort is an excellent choice. You’ll find some of the most modern rooms on the island, just a few meters from the best stretch of Bounty Beach, where it has sun loungers. The restaurant has a varied and super tasty menu (ah, that falafel…) at very competitive prices and it’s extremely pleasant for a quiet dinner right on the seafront.

It has Wi‑Fi, air conditioning, terraces in most rooms, and the only downside we can find is that it doesn’t have a pool. But… the sea is 3 steps away!

Angelina Beach Resort

We’ve already mentioned Angelina when we recommended its restaurant for authentic Italian pizzas, but now it’s time to mention it as one of the best hotels in Malapascua. Its 40‑square‑meter rooms with balconies and views of the beach where you can watch the sunset and the exotic decor will help you rest well after a day enjoying this paradise. Being on Logon Beach and sufficiently away from everything (despite being very close to the port) means karaoke or roosters won’t bother you.

Prices are around $60 with breakfast included, which is usually artisan bread and, of course, Italian Nutella.

Hippocampus Beach Resort

The Hippocampus Beach Resort is another of the best hotel options to stay in Malapascua. The rooms need a bit of updating, but they’re tastefully decorated with photos of the island taken by photographer Pak Muñoz. For around $45 a night, you’ll sleep right on the seafront and very close to most of the island’s cool restaurants. The hotel’s own bar is one of the liveliest, along with Ocean Vida’s, to watch the sunset, and on Saturdays there’s always live music.

It offers good breakfasts from its terrace with sea views, a fridge, air conditioning, and Wi‑Fi.

Blanco Beach Resort Malapascua

We finish our selection of top places to stay in Malapascua with one of the most modern and, admittedly, also one of the most luxurious and pricey. Located next to Tepanee, you have spectacular rooms with sea views that are everything you imagine when you think of the Philippines. Everything is taken care of down to the last detail, including breakfasts, which are filling, varied (you can ask for alternatives if you have intolerances or are vegans), and served with real coffee.

It has a nice sun‑lounger area, although keep in mind that both nearby beaches (the Cemetery Beach and the one next to Tepanee) are rocky, so it’s better to bring reef shoes.
