It’s been several years since Camiguin started to become one of the favorite islands for travelers discovering the Philippines—especially Spanish speakers, who, for some reason, always end up falling head over heels for it. If you’re set on visiting and checking out the main attractions things to see in Camiguin, you’re surely looking for the best place where to stay in Camiguin.
With several visits to the island under our belt since 2010, here we share the best areas to sleep in Camiguin and the hotels that will make your stay more pleasant.
The best areas to stay in Camiguin
The capital of Camiguin is Mambajao, located 3 kilometers from Balbagon Port (the ferry arrival point from Bohol) and barely 2 kilometers from the island’s tiny airport. So it won’t be surprising that most of the places to stay in Camiguin are more or less near this area.
Specifically, almost all hotels in Camiguin are in Mambajao’s municipalities or barangays: mainly Bug-ong, Agoho, and Yumbing. These sit on the island’s northwest coast, very close to the departure point for boats to White Island. From here you can tour Camiguin comfortably on your motorbike or by hiring a tricycle or multicab for the whole day. In addition, this is where most of the island’s restaurants are concentrated—by no means overcrowded. That’s why our advice is to stay around here.
To get to this hotel zone in Camiguin from the airport, you can take a private tricycle (in Camiguin they’re called motorelas and are a little larger), which shouldn’t cost you more than 100 pesos, or hop on one of the motorelas that run around the island for about 10 pesos per person. If you like, there are usually people offering motorbike rentals at the door, too.
Coming from Balbagon Port, you can opt for a tricycle for a special trip. These are around 150 pesos in total. The cheapest option is to take a tricycle or a motorela to Mambajao (10–12 pesos per person) and then another to Agoho–Yumbing for 12–15 pesos more. As with the airport, you can also rent a motorbike directly at the port for about 350–400 pesos.
If you’d like a trusted contact to rent a motorbike in Camiguin for 300 pesos per day, leave us a comment and we’ll send it to you as soon as possible. We can also give you references for tricycles with drivers or rental cars.
If you’re coming to Camiguin from Mindanao (Balingoan), you’ll arrive at the port of Benoni. Then you can get to Mambajao by jeepney for 30–40 pesos or negotiate a private tricycle or multicab to your hotel.
If all this still sounds like Greek, you can read more about it in How to get to Camiguin.
To give you an idea, you can take a look at where the hotels in Camiguin are located on the map we’ve prepared at the end of this article.

Hostels in Camiguin, backpacker options
Since there isn’t much tourism yet, you can’t really say there are many hostels in Camiguin. In fact, the ones that exist aren’t 100% geared toward backpackers; they combine private and shared rooms. Even so, if you’re traveling solo or looking to meet people, here are some very well‑priced options you’ll like.
Shey’s Travellers Inn
Located a few kilometers south of Balbagon Port, this homestay sits in a little nook by the sea and is lovingly run by a lovely Filipino family that will make you feel at home. So much so that you’ll have a fully equipped shared kitchen to whip up your own creations and save a bit.
They have double and quadruple rooms (ideal if you’re looking for a cheap place to sleep in Camiguin as a couple or with family), but also 4‑bed shared dorms—and note that the beds are doubles and each has its own fan—from just $7 per night. It’s true it isn’t a modern place and the bathrooms are extremely basic, but travelers rate it 9.8 on Booking thanks to the kindness of the staff, the location, and its common areas with sea views.

Playa del Fuego Camiguin Beach Hostel & Resort
With a better location than the previous one—between the airport and the Yumbing area—and with access to a fairly large beach, if you want a backpacker vibe at a good price, we recommend this pretty decent hostel/resort. Its shared dorm has only 4 beds, so you’ll have plenty of chances for a quiet night’s sleep, as well as to relax in one of the hammocks on the lovely terrace overlooking the beach. The hostel also has a restaurant with excellent value for money, and breakfast, included in the bed price, is hearty and tasty.
If you’re traveling as a couple, with family, or in a group, it’s also a good option to stay in Camiguin, as there are double rooms and seafront bungalows at good prices. Note that they have fans and no hot water, but they’re super spacious and you’ll hardly feel hot.

Budget hotels in Camiguin
The good thing is that, as it’s still a less touristic island, it’s possible to find budget hotels in Camiguin that are pretty decent. In other words, the value for money is considerably better than in other destinations like Siargao, El Nido, Coron, or Boracay. Here’s a small selection of what we think are the best for you under $25, based on our experience.
SJ Pabua Travellers Inn
One of the cheapest places to stay in Camiguin is this simple guesthouse located very close to Yumbing, where the boats to White Island depart. This is your spot if you want something basic and clean to sleep because you believe you’ll spend the day exploring the island and still want to be close to restaurants and bars. The family running it is lovely, and there’s also a shared kitchen you can use, as well as free drinking‑water tanks.
Keep in mind that the showers don’t have hot water and the Wi‑Fi sometimes isn’t as fast as we’d like. They have double rooms as well as rooms for large groups. Prices start at $15 per night for a double room with air‑conditioning and a nice little terrace with your own table, which we think is a great deal.

Bat Tree Cottages
This is one of our favorite places to sleep in Camiguin. Located a stone’s throw from Yumbing, with restaurants and shops around, it’s a super‑quiet property of modern, fully equipped nipa huts. They even have a small kitchen and a sort of dining area where you’ll be more than happy to have breakfast each day.
From just $22 per night (yes, really) you’ll have a very traditional experience but, at the same time, everything you need for a comfortable stay in Camiguin. The rooms, despite not having air‑conditioning, are spacious, and with a fan you don’t usually feel hot. They have showers with water heaters and the internet works quite well. For us, a great pick if it’s available.

C-Side Inn
If you’re still looking for places to sleep in Camiguin under $25 per night, you’ll like this one. It’s on the way out of Yumbing town, right by the sea, and has double rooms from just $21 with air‑conditioning, TV, a kettle to heat water, and a water heater for the shower. But if you pay a little more, you’ll get a fridge and a huge terrace with sea views.
It’s a cool place to stay in Camiguin if you’re traveling with family or in a group, since they have very spacious family rooms also with sea views for barely $30.

More budget hotels in Camiguin
If the ones above don’t convince you or are already full, take a look at these:
- Borbon’s Treehouse By the Sea: there are basic huts for $21 with a fan, but even better are the bungalows—more spacious—and one hut with sea views for just a little more. The owners are charming and the bar serves the coldest beer on the whole island. The location is good, right behind the airport (don’t worry, there are only 2 planes a day). Book from this link.
- Mabini Hotel: located in a quiet area of Mambajao, it might be the property with the most facilities on the island if you’re looking for hotels in Camiguin for around $25. Clean, with a pool, billiards area, spacious rooms, etc. Have a look here.
Mid‑range hotels in Camiguin
If you’re looking for places to stay in Camiguin that are inexpensive but with a little more comfort than the above, we’ve got good news: this island is one of the best in that regard. For under $40 you have more than great options, which we’ll tell you about here.
Mountain View Cottages
On one of our most recent multi‑week visits to Camiguin, we decided to try this small hotel near Agoho—and what a great choice! We were so comfortable we would have stayed even longer. It’s a set of cottages run by a Canadian‑Filipino couple—ideal for resting. All are divided into two parts: bedroom (hot water and air‑conditioning) and kitchen‑dining area. Unlike what often happens in the Philippines, this hotel in Camiguin has a fully equipped kitchen, perfect if you feel like making your own breakfast (we all get tired of scrambled eggs all the time) or a light dinner; plus, in Agoho you’ll find a small market with everything you need. If you add that you can get it from only $30, it’s a winner.
The kindness of the owners, chats on your own terrace, the good internet connection, and simply the peace that’s felt here won us over. That’s why we dedicated a separate article: “Sleeping at Mountain View Cottages, Camiguin”. If you go, say hi to Henry from us!

Camiguin Volcan Beach Eco Retreat & Dive Resort
If you want a special place to stay in Camiguin, this is one of the most recommendable hotels. In addition to rooms decorated in traditional Filipino style, they have seafront bungalows that are simply amazing. This place brings back the feelings from that first Philippines we set foot in back in 2010: relaxation, nature, and welcoming people—so we wouldn’t think twice.
The resort has direct access to the sea, though not a beach, which offers opportunities for swimming and snorkeling, as well as relaxing in one of its bucolic hammocks. There’s also a restaurant and a dive shop—perfect if you’re thinking about scuba diving in Camiguin. Prices start at $41 per night, though of course the best is the beachfront villa, around $70.

KURMA Eco Beach Lodge
A super charming beachfront resort offering impeccable personalized service. The rooms have tons of character and, above all, are spotless. For us, KURMA is one of the best places to stay in Camiguin because it also lets you enjoy incredible sunsets facing White Beach and take yoga classes, as well as practice freediving.
It also has a great restaurant, which is why we included it in our list of places where to eat in Camiguin. That said, it’s located right in Yumbing, so you’ve got plenty of shops and restaurants at hand with no need for transport. A double room costs about $38.

Nypa Style Resort Camiguin
We promise the photos don’t do this place justice. Ilenia and Stefano have been running this small hotel (and a restaurant we love) for years, surrounded by nature, with rooms where, as the name suggests, nypa—a kind of traditional Filipino bamboo—predominates. Their little cabins are super cozy, ranging from more basic to more luxurious, starting at $41 per night. It’s true they don’t have air‑conditioning, but for us that’s usually not a problem.
The location is good, though keep in mind you will need to rent a motorbike or rely on tricycle drivers. The good thing is the restaurant is so great you won’t need to go out at night to look for anything. Plus, they have a small pool and a spa where they give amazing massages.

More options of this kind in Camiguin
If the above don’t convince you, we’re 100% sure some of these will:
- Caminres Homestay: we stayed here for 5 days on our last visit to Camiguin and recommend it a lot. This family has 2 studios on the roadside between Mambajao and Yumbing. They’re super spacious and have a fully equipped kitchen that includes a large fridge, a drinking‑water tank, a shower with a water heater, and internet that works pretty well. It’s true it’s by the road, but Camiguin isn’t exactly a busy island at night. From only $31 per night, we think it’s great. Check it out from this link.
- Lanzones Cabana: it’s right opposite Mountain View Cottages, so the location is good. It’s a complex of colorful tiny cabins, but with air‑conditioning, TV, and bathroom from $30 per night. The staff is super friendly and helpful. You can take a look and book here.
- Marianita’s Cottages: located very close to Yumbing, the value for money of this property is very good, with double rooms and studios with kitchens from just $30, with very modern furnishings. One of them has a terrace with sea views that’s wonderful. Have a look from this link.
Luxury hotels in Camiguin
If you’re coming to the Philippines on your honeymoon or you’re simply looking for a spectacular place to stay, you’ll find several exclusive hotels in Camiguin that will steal your heart. Plus, as we said above, prices are quite competitive compared to other places in the archipelago. Take advantage!
SomeWhere Else Boutique Resort
Without a doubt, this is the best place to stay in Camiguin if you’re looking for something special. It’s a beautiful resort made up of three villas with sea views, surrounded by palm trees. All have a small private terrace, a shared pool, and, above all, exquisite attention from its owner, Jerome, who will help you with everything possible—even planning your day‑to‑day on the island. It’s also ideal if you’re traveling as a couple or with a group, as two of them can accommodate up to 4 people.
From $75 per night with breakfast included (excellent). Note that the minimum stay is 2 nights (we promise you’ll want much more). And if, for whatever reason, you need good internet, they have Starlink—can’t get faster! Truly, it could be the place that makes the difference on your trip.

Balai sa Bai
Imagine yourself in an infinity pool with sea views after a whole day exploring a gorgeous island. That’s what you can have if you decide to stay at this hotel in Camiguin. It’s undoubtedly one of the most beautiful on the island, not only for its Balinese‑Filipino style but also for the service, which is super friendly. They have villa‑style rooms with a small private pool, a small kitchen, a living room, and an outdoor bathroom.
The location, despite not being in the “thick of it,” is excellent, and from here you can access any corner of the island you can think of. If you’re looking for comfort and beautiful decor, this is your place to sleep in Camiguin.

Nouveau Resort Camiguin
It isn’t in our favorite area, but this Camiguin resort opened in 2022 and is, without a doubt, the most upscale on the island. Just take a look at the photos below to realize how spectacular it is. It has several pools, a restaurant, and, in short, all the services of a hotel of this category. Prices are around $170 per night with breakfast included.

More resort options in Camiguin
Have a look at these other alternatives if you’re after a special hotel in Camiguin:
- Bintana Sa Paraiso: we’re not huge fans of the location because they’re a bit “in the middle of nowhere,” but it’s true that these Santorini‑style rooms with private pools and sea views are impossible to find elsewhere in the Philippines—and not at this price (from $70 per night with breakfast). Seriously, check the photos from this link.
- Guerrera Rice Paddy Villas: how about sleeping in a villa that faces the sea on one side and lush green rice paddies on the other? And if you’ve got a private jacuzzi, imagine that. This property is in Yumbing and its restaurant—mainly Thai food—is excellent. Book now here.
